Make Something Beautiful

I only gave birth to two of the people in this photo but I consider each one of them mine. Each of them are amazing. Today, you are going to hear about one of them.

Sometimes, there are people that come into our lives that have a profound effect on us just by being themselves. Katie has been part of our family for twenty years, and married into it a little less than sixteen years ago. From the beginning, Katie has expressed her love for us in extraordinary ways, and recently, I have experienced it in beautiful new ways.

Three weeks before my husband died, my daughter-in-law made arrangements for us to have family photos taken. It was such a thoughtful gesture. A legacy of love was captured in one hour. I am so very thankful for such an amazing gift.

And at the end of my husband’s life, as she sat at his bedside lovingly holding his hand and whispering sweet words, my heart swelled with thankfulness and love for her.

After my husband died, my dear daughter-in-law gave me a book of poetry, Devotions, by Mary Oliver, because she thought I would find comfort there. This morning, I was captured by these words from the poem, “Franz Marc’s Blue Horses,”  that made me think of her.

“Maybe the desire to make something beautiful is the piece of God that is in each of us.”

Thank you, Katie, for the many ways you reflect this to our family. I love you with all my heart!

Make something beautiful today.

Blessings,

Carol Marchant Gibbs
